Why a Nurse?
 

The nurse consultant relies on knowledge of the nursing, health and  wellness and the healthcare delivery systems to implement the steps of the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning and implementation and evaluation.  Due to a nurse’s knowledge of healthcare practice, policy, procedure and their overall knowledge of the healthcare injury they are best able to:

 

• ØFacilitates communication with other professionals for successful resolution between parties involved in healthcare cases  

• ØEducates attorneys and others involved regarding the healthcare facts and issues of a case

• ØResearches and integrates applicable literature and other evidence as it relates to the healthcare facts and issues of a case

• ØReviews, summarizes and analyzes health and legal documents while comparing/correlating them to the facts of the case

• ØEvaluates the healthcare practitioner’s and facility’s duty to provide services within clinic guidelines and common practices

• ØInterviews witnesses and parties pertinent to healthcare issues

• ØAssesses issues of damages and causation relative to health care issues within the legal process

• ØIdentifies, locates, evaluates and confers with expert witnesses

• ØIn collaboration with an attorney, participates in drafting of healthcare documents for use in the legal setting

• ØDevelops collaborative case strategies
